1:00 – 2:30p A Conversation on Gender, Race, and Class with Herb Boyd and Cora Daniels
Herb Boyd (Race and Resistance: African Americans in the Twenty-First Century) is activist, journalist, author, and teacher. His articles have appeared in such publications as the Amsterdam News, the Final Call, Essence, and the Network Journal. In 1995, with co-editor Robert Allen, Boyd received the American Book Award for Brotherman: The Odyssey of Black Men in America. A noted authority on black studies, he is the author of We Shall Overcome and has been teaching African and African American history for nearly forty years. He teaches at the College of New Rochelle and lives in New York.
Cora Daniels (Ghettonation: A Journey into the Land of Bling and Home of the Shameless) is an award-winning journalist. Her work has been published in Fortune, the New York Times, Essence, O: The Oprah Magazine, USA Today, Heart & Soul, FSB: Fortune Small Business, and Savoy. She has also been a staff writer at Fortune and an editor at Working Mother, and she is currently a contributing writer for Essence. Daniels has served as a commentator on CNN, CNBC, BET, NPR, ABC News, and Charlie Rose. As an author Daniels has been called “dynamic,” “perceptive,” and “a powerful voice from the younger generation.” Her first book, Black Power Inc., was dubbed “thought provoking” by the Washington Post and “a must read” by Black Issues Book Review.

Paul Robeson Jr., son of the legendary Paul Robeson, served for more than 20 years as his father's close aide and personal representative. An esteemed cultural critic, he has lectured across the United States and England and appeared on radio and television programs across the globe. He is the author of Paul Robeson, Jr. Speaks to America: The Politics of Multiculturalism, The Undiscovered Paul Robeson: An Artist's Journey, and A Black Way of Seeing: From Liberty to Freedom.
Max Rodriguez is the Founder and Publisher of QBR The Black Book Review and Founder and Director of the Harlem Book Fair, held annually in New York City, Chicago, IL, Boston, MA, Hartford, Ct., and other cities nationally. Mr. Rodriguez is the author of Sacred Fire: The QBR 100 Essential Black Books and is the editor of the QBR website (www.QBR.com). He was recently inducted into the Writer’s Hall of Fame at Chicago State University for his pioneering work in the advocacy of African American literature and publishing.
