  Eartha Watts-Hicks' first novel, Love Changes, was the culmination of years of independent study, as well as continuing education coursework in creative writing, fiction, and poetry she received at Marymount Manhattan College, City College of New York, the Frederick Douglass Creative Arts Center, the Center for Black Literature at Medgar Evers College, and the intensive Advanced Novel workshop at Hurston/Wright Writers’ Week. Eartha was recognized as a literary "game changer" by the NYCHA branch of the NAACP and presented with the Just R.E.A.D. Award in fiction. Eartha is a member of the Harlem Writers Guild.
  Miriam Kelly Ferguson was born and raised on the eastern shores of Maryland. A graduate of Morgan State University, she is a past participant of the Hurston/Wright Foundation’s fiction workshop. Miriam is also a fellow of the North Country Institute and Retreat for Writers of Color and a member of the renowned Harlem Writers Guild. Her writings have appeared in Harlem World Magazine, Impact News, and Hamilton Stone Review. She resides in Harlem and is currently working on her next title.

Dr. Gary Rhule (Sailing On Broken Pieces) is a Board Certified Doctor in Internal Medicine and has worked in the emergency room, community medicine and in managed care. He has worked with patients who, despite coming to the emergency room for a physical condition, also need help with mental health concerns. He has an interest in public health, health policy, health equity and cultural competency in health care. Dr. Rhule understands the complexity of the cultural context in which health care is delivered. He has done voluntary medical missions in Zimbabwe, Jamaica, Grenada, Haiti and Guyana in South America. He has a broad perspective in health care gained by personal, academic and professional experience.

New York, NY. Once taken as a symbol of urban decay, Military Park has recently re-opened after a year of work that has transformed the park from a seldom used, underwhelming public place into a revitalized, energized space that includes newly planted flowers and shrubs, restrooms, and a new restaurant scheduled to open later in the summer.
Perhaps the most important aspect of Military Park (www.militarypark.com) will be daily free programming from yoga to outdoor concerts and live author readings. “This could be the
Bryant Park of Newark,” said Daniel Biederman, president of Biederman Redevelopment Ventures and an urban parks expert who two decades ago worked to transform that park in Midtown Manhattan from a forbidding drug haven to an urban oasis.
Literary programming is another key element of Bryant Park’s success, and Military Park will also have a series of talks by authors, created by the organization behind the Harlem Book Fair. “We are pleased to be acknowledged for our commitment to developing and serving audiences through books”, said Max Rodriguez, founder of the Harlem Book Fair and publisher of QBR The Black Book Review. “Our weekly Author Talks will feature selected, well-known, and newly-published authors from all genres. We anticipate large crowds, hungry for lunch time entertainment”. The 14-week-long series, begun on Wednesday, June 25, from 12:00p.m. to 1:30p.m. and scheduled to conclude on Wednesday, September 22, has been extended to Wednesday, October 22.
“We are excited to bring the Harlem Book Fair back to Newark,” said Dan Biederman. “We’re proud to introduce more literary events to the city.”
